Rangers Blast Tigers 9 - 1

Robertson Give Up 5 Homers

The first Tiger's lefty since 1961 to give up so many homers is none other than Nate Robertson. Detroit was shelled on Wednesday night and they were brought back down to reality.

Texas was due, however. They are mired in their division much the same as Detroit at this point of the season..

Detroit Bombs Texas

Joyce Hits 2 Dingers

Matt Joyce points to the sky after his solo home run

''I talked to him the other day,'' Leyland said. ''I said, 'You know, you have a chance to be a good player but you need to play with a little more tenacity.' He said, 'I can do that.' If he bears down, grinds it out and goes the extra mile, he should be a very good player.''

The Tigers staged another 7th inning rally and beat the Rangers 11 - 3 on Tuesday night. Detroit stands 2 games under .500 - probably a little too late for a pennant run - and this is the first time in August they have strung two wins in a row.

Home in on the Rangers

Sheffield Shines in Texas

Gary Sheffield beats the throw to 1st base in the eigth inning

''Two good things came out of it,'' manager Jim Leyland said. ''The fact that we came back after being down with their guy pitching a good game. And it looked like we could have given it up. We could have come in (to the clubhouse) a real sad bunch, but we didn't. To come on the road and win against a team that can really hit I thought was pretty good.''

Sheffield had a 2-run drive in the seventh and Curtis Granderson 2 triples in Monday night's 8 - 7 victory over the Texas Rangers. The two teams have virtually identical records.

The Tigers are Breaking My Heart

Baltimore Clubs Detroit 16 - 8

Don't look now - but we are beating the pants off of Detroit!

Detroit looked bad today. Two Orioles hit home runs off of starter Zach Miner and the rest of the game was already over. Poor pitching.........poor hitting (but 12 hits is not bad when you don't give up 22) and we are waiting for the clowns again. I wish I was only dreaming.
Mora had five hits for the Orioles and a career-high six RBIs, while Scott had three hits and four RBIs to pace a 22-hit attack. It was the most hits in a game for Baltimore since they had 22 on July 22, 2006, at Tampa Bay. Their 16 runs and 12 extra-base hits were season highs.
Baltimore started the game with five straight hits, including three doubles, to take a 4-0 lead off Miner. Detroit got a run in the bottom of the inning on Miguel Cabrera's RBI double, but Baltimore made it 5-1 in the second when Miner walked Kevin Millar with the bases loaded.
The Tigers are 4 games under .500 again at 60 - 64 and in danger of giving up a spot in the standings to Cleveland since they are now 10½ games behind Chicago.

Tigers Finally Take One from Baltimore

Leyland says he'll stick it out

Guillen makes a wild throw to 1st

The boys got one back. It was a good night for Verlander, too. Just as we start to sigh they show some metal. Detroit won 5 - 3 Saturday night, and they juggled their way to 60 - 63. This means there are only 39 games to play, so technically they could still lose 100 games.

Verlander might have gotten the run support he needed, but the Tigers were careless defensively. After taking an early 1-0 lead on a Gary Sheffield RBI single, Detroit let two runs score in the third on a throwing error by third baseman Carlos Guillen. Guillen overthrew first on a base hit by Melvin Mora, and in a case of déjÀ vu, he overthrew first again in the sixth on a Mora base hit. My aching back-side. Boy, we miss Inge.

Silly Tigers - Orioles Triumph 11 - 2

Jones gives it away in the 9th

Todd Jones is literally booed out of the game after giving up 6 runs in the 9th

Polanco gets ejected

Placido Polanco contends he was interfered with on a DP

They said it couldn't get any worse. Jim Leyland was awestruck. The Detroit Clowns, er, Tigers had 11 hits and came across HP with only 2. This is a bad trend - all gristle and no meat. Even a miracle will not save this season anymore.

The Baltimore Orioles came into the game with about the same record as Detroit and they looked like All Stars going out. Todd Jones is making history - for the opposing teams. Detroit sits 4 games under .500 again and they have lost 12 of the last 15 games. I think.

Tigers Avoid Sweep - Toronto topped 5 - 1

Detroit Creeps to 59 - 62

Zaun strikes out to end the game

Some are going to call it the ol' "we're out of it, just try hard the rest of the way" speech.
That's not what it was, however, because that's not how it was meant. Armando Galarraga (11-4) was outstanding for eight innings, but he has been outstanding before. As Leyland said, the way Galarraga has pitched while compiling an 11-4 record "is no longer a surprise."
Jim Leyland spoke briefly to his team before it displayed renewed grit Thursday by scoring five runs in the eighth inning to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1 -- averting a four-game sweep in the process.
